Printing from types was first invented by the Chinese in the 11th century by Pi Sheng who showed the way to printing from movable types. This knowledge did not reach Europe until after it had been invented independently there by a man named John Gutenberg early in the 14th century in a town near the city of Mainz in Germany, and the first printing came in the year 1454 and was called "31 -Line Indulgence" which is preserved in the British Museum. Gutenberg printed the well known "36-Line Bible", and the "42-Line Bible". There are others who are said to have invented the types but John Gutenberg is the more authenticated personality in the invention of the art of printing. Education became very cheap by the invention of printing which helped to civilize the people of the world by printing more books at very cheap rates. Before the invention of printing, books were written by hand, which was very laborious and cost very big amounts, which made it impossible to educate the millions of people at a cheap rate as is being done now. Due to this invention further efforts were made and modern machines in printing and type casting were invented to produce books and newspapers in one and multi-colors, very cheaply, and this made possible the spread of education and civilization.
