The Man Eating Tiger

The Man Eating Tiger

- Joseph Kirby – When in Std IV

Long ago there was a man-eating tiger. It killed people and destroyed huts and cattle.
One day a hunter heard about this so he went to the village and told the chief that if he gave him his men and a goat as a bait he would kill the pest. They set out on a moonlight night. They went deep into the jungle and tied the goat to a tree. The hunter climbed up the tree on to which the goat was tied and the four men climbed up other trees. All of a sudden, at 12 o'clock at night, the tiger came. The hunter and men were as quiet as mice and the great tiger - got down on his crouches ready for a spring. The hunter took aim, but missed the chest and shot the tiger in the head. The tiger fell down and rolled, got up again, and got ready for another pounce. But the hunter shot the tiger in the heart. The tiger fell down and died. The men went back to the village and the hunter was rewarded Rs. 3,500 by the chief.
