- Mrs. MILDRED GRANT
Very sadly Campion School did have to re-orientate itself to parting with Rev. Fr. Savall who would be leaving India mid-year to recuperate his heath. As the French so appositely say ‘at every parting we die a little’ both the Principal and the school suffered the prospect of that departure with deep sorrow. On June 4th he sailed for Europe taking with him not only memories like the leaves of Vallombrosa but also so very many valedictions. Whatever he associates himself with we know he will touch with the talisman of success for in him one perceived the majestic art of lwys being able observantly to distil the soul of goodness from all things.
On the opening of June Re. Fr. R Cones officially took charge of Campion School. The new Principal already carrying the onus of divers duties did nevertheless give the school that exacting attention required of his new office. This year did also have to accommodate other changes in staff: Miss Hilla Murzban, Miss Swaries and Mr. Sayed were beginning – of – year arrivals while Mr. Lopes took over the secretary ship in June and Miss J Cooper replaced Miss J Labouchardiere in August.
A most distressing event in July/August was the poliomyelitis epidemic, which hung like a pall over the city. This caused the school to stay closed till August 18th. Our gallant little lads did contribute Rs 384 for the rehabilitation of crippled children. Some proud acquisitions for the school during this year were a projector a permanent cinea screen several library books and one gross of our picturesque badges.
Don Juan Francisco Guadilon Consul for Spain did the honors at our sports and prize distribution held at St. Xavier’s College Gymkhana Parel. The years close brought a slightly sanguine response from the Controller of Accommodation requesting for details relating to further premises in Wellesly House.
