Karjat – Khopoli

- Jerry Ezekiel T. L.

Our fifth Hike was to Karjat. Here we lived in a Mission House and had our meals in a canteen close by. Unfortunately, after going to Khopoli we were told that the Power House could not be visited on a Sunday. From the accompanying photo above you can see we had to come back walk¬ing along the rails. A few sturdy chaps walked the eight miles from Khopoli to Karjat with Fr. More, but some of us were too bulky for that, others found their shoes giving way and others were not used to such walks, not to say they were a little too lazy. There were about six small stations on the way, about one-mile distance from each other, and an engine with a bogie was due along the same road; hence we got orders to walk in groups, and to make sure before we left one station that we could reach the next before the train. Thus it happened that the train found Scouts at every station on its way. Then we reached Karjat, we were cheered by the guys that had walked all the way and told yarns-oh, what yarns! all about the ‘heroic(?) expedition’. Weren't those few chaps proud of their deed!
