It was during my stay at Lonavla that I had an exciting experience. One night my mother and I were returning home from the cinema.    There were scarcely any people on the streets, and we felt rather frightened. On the way we saw the milk-man's son, so I asked my mother to let him walk with us a little way. As we were walking down a street which is supposed to be haunted, we noticed three dogs slink away with fear. Wondering what had scared them we saw, a few yards ahead of us, a huge animal rush across the street and disappear among the bushes. My mother and I were very afraid. The milk-man's son ran, shouting - bagh! bagh! and we raced after him, only stopping when we arrived at our home.

The next day we were told that a large hyena which had attacked two village women the night before, had been shot.
