Brief Profile of Ramesh Narayan.
Ramesh Narayan has been variously described as an adman, a writer and a photographer.
In 1984, Ramesh established Canco Advertising, an Agency that had blue chip clients like HDFC Ltd., HDFC Life, IDFC, MTNL, Union Bank, Yahoo!, PNB, United India Insurance etc. in the areas of financial services, telecom, insurance, infrastructure, digital technology to name a few.
Very active in the advertising industry he was President of The Advertising Club (two terms), President of the Advertising Agencies Association of India (two terms), Chairman, Planning Committee of the AdAsia 2003, a Director of the Audit Bureau of Circulations and the National Readership Survey Council and the first Indian to judge the finals of the Effie Awards in New York. He had also Chaired the Abby awards twice, won the Media Columnist of the Year award twice and held a widely acclaimed photography exhibition in aid of an NGO, Alert India.
In 2006, at the age of 50, he retired from running an Agency.
And that was the beginning of an amazing second innings.
Ramesh then channelized his energies into doing what he felt was good for the advertising industry and for society. He has authored a very successful book “The world of advertising and marketing around me”. He has been associated with the setting up of the unique Olive Crown Award and several gender-sensitization initiatives.
Today at the age of 60 he is the first person to have the dual honor of being inducted into the International Advertising Association Hall of Fame and to have been honored by the Advertising Agencies Association of India with its Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2015 he was honored by the World Board of the International Advertising Association as a Global Champion at the inaugural Inspire awards ceremony in London and by the Public Relations Council of India for Creative Excellence.
He is a member of the World Board of the International Advertising Association as Vice President (Internal Communications), a member of the Executive Committee of Asian Federation of Advertising Associations and is on the Managing Committee of the IAA (India Chapter) and The Advertising Club. For the second time in succession he is the Chairman of the Awards Governing Council of this year’s Abby Awards at GoaFest the largest and most prestigious awards for creative excellence in the country.
A member of the Rotary Club of Bombay, he has been honored as Director of the Year, Rotarian of the Year (twice) and is the presently President Elect. He is credited with creating the widely acclaimed and internationally awarded “Bhavishya Yaan” a skills enrichment program for underprivileged children which the Rotary Club runs in many municipal schools in Mumbai.
